free-to-download, large-scale datasets (AhmedML, WindsorML and
DrivAerML) for the academic and industrial CFD/fluids community to
develop and test data-driven and physics-driven ML approaches. Full
details may be found here [1], including links to arxiv papers and
instructions on how to download the datasets. Each dataset includes more
than 300 different geometries (Ahmed, Windsor and Drivaer automotive

research continues to have enormous influence in applied mathematics,
engineering, physics and beyond.
The day will consist of six talks by Professors Nigel Peake (Cambridge),
Aimee Morgans (Imperial), C. John Chapman (Keele), Ted Johnson (UCL),
Anne Juel (Manchester) and Tim Pedley (Cambridge), who will reflect on
the influence and legacy of Sir James Lighthill across distinct branches
of applied mathematics, focused around fluid mechanics.
The day will conclude with a panel discussion led by Professors Chris
Budd (Bath), Anna Scaife (Manchester), Catherine Powell (Manchester) and
Steve Furber (Manchester) on recent progress in the area of artificial
intelligence (AI), and in particular on the influence and effect of the
1973 report Sir James was commissioned to write about AI, which resulted
in a so-called 'AI Winter'. A dinner will follow after the end of the
meeting.
Admission is by advanced booking only, on a first-come, first-served
basis. There is no charge for this event. PLEASE REGISTER BY 5 PM ON
FRIDAY 16 AUGUST 2024.
