A. UKFN MESSAGES
FROM: Magdalena Yates, ERCOFTAC, 28/11/2024
SUBJECT: ERCOFTAC Spring and Autumn Festivals 2025 - dates to save
DETAILS: Please see this message [1].
FROM: Ignazio Maria Viola, Matthew Juniper, Catherine Noakes & Steven
Tobias, 19/11/2024
SUBJECT: National Fluid Mechanics Hub - outline proposal
DETAILS: We would like to share with the entire fluids community an
outline proposal for a National Fluid Mechanics Hub. The outline
proposal may be found here [2]. This vision has emerged from the
collective effort of the UK fluids community through a series of surveys
and away days between 2023 and 2024 solicited by the UK Fluids Network.
The National Fluid Mechanics Hub seeks to position fluid mechanics as a
strategic national asset, addressing global challenges. It will lead
research, industry engagement, and talent development through three
centres: the Future Fluid Mechanics Centre for advancing science through
ambitious nationwide multidisciplinary projects; the Future Fluids
Impact Centre for bridging academia, industry, and policy; and the
Future Fluids Leaders Centre for nurturing our community, talent and
leadership. It will align research with societal needs, foster
innovation, and influence policy to ensure the UK remains a global
leader in fluid mechanics and its applications.
Please consider filling in the survey here [3] to share your view on the
outline proposal and the vision that it describes. This consultation
will allow refining the proposal and ensuring that it will truly
represent a shared vision within our community. Every question of the
survey is optional, but if you include your name and email, we might
contact you to follow up. At the end of the survey, you are also asked
whether you allow us using your text in the revised proposal.
Please complete the survey before WEDNESDAY 4TH DECEMBER 2024.
